"It's Glockin' time!"

📖 - The Writings of the So-Called Beast of Otari

Beginnings

Glock was Orphaned on the streets of Otari. Taken in by Yinyasmera, tavern owner of Crook’s Nook. Not out of love, but out of opportunity. Forced to fight for everything; food, shelter, a place in the family. Glock’s fighting skills were forged through pain and hardship, resulting in a deep-seated survival instinct, and a mistrust of others.

Glock’s distant Orc heritage began to show through puberty, as he quickly grew in size and began to display inhuman strength. Glock earned renown in Otari by fighting in secret underground fighting rings, held in secret locations underneath Otari. Yinyasmera began to rig fights to her favour, and Glock played his part.

Absalom

Yinyasmera maximised her earning potential by taking Glock, now on the cusp of adulthood, to the nearby city of Absalom - centre of the world. Glock was entered into bigger and deadlier fights at high society gatherings, experiencing the allure of burgeoning fame and earning a reputation as the “Beast of Otari”. His success saw no fortune in his name, but gave Yinyasmera a foothold in Absalom to begin expanding her criminal influence.

Tragedy would befall Glock during the Tournament of the Seven Sisters. Seven daughters of a prominent Absalom politician, all to be wed within the year, would host an extravagant tournament throughout their wedding festivities. The seventh due to marry, Miveyn, took a fancy to the intimidating young Glock over the course of the tournament, and they entered a secret courtship. Her betrothed, shipping mogul Shochem Avadere, paid her no real attention until gossip reached him of their betrayal. Miveyn was found strangled during the wedding of the sixth sister, with blame quickly pinned on the ‘murderous’ Beast of Otari.

Glock barely escaped with his life, although the overwhelming cocktail of guilt, despair and anger would manifest in his first true Rage. A massacre of guards and well-intentioned guests would be the only true crime that Glock was responsible for before fleeing, ironically sneaking aboard an Avadere trading vessel bound for a destination unknown. **Thoughts of Miveyn and the tournament would subsequently be a source of barbaric rage.

Almas

Glock’s banishment from Absalom would also see Yinyasmera blacklisted from Absalom high-society and her criminal network quickly scattered. Believing the worst of him, Yinyasmera would dedicate a considerable portion of her time and fortune to hunting down Glock. If Glock were to dare set foot in Absalom again, he would also be arrested on sight.

Aboard the Avadere trading vessel, Glock hid and stole food to sustain himself for a time before being discovered. Luckily his discovery was by an old Half-Orc by the name of Vorrix, who would take pity on him and smuggle him off the ship at the next port of Almas. Wise in his years, but also frail, Vorrix took the young Glock on as protection for his personal quest - Glock was never told the full truth of Vorrix’s purpose, all he understood was that Vorrix searched for an artefact tied to an ancient god, and traded his wares for rumours and secrets in pursuit of this.

Keeping a low profile in Almas was initially difficult to the disgruntled Glock, and to assuage his dangerous fits of rage, Vorrix would teach Glock much about Orc tradition and mysticism, teaching Glock a level of inner peace through battle mantras and spiritual worship. Glock would here learn the Orc practice of painting a War Mask to attune his focus and concentration.

For a couple of years, Glock and Vorrix built trust in one another as they ventured in and out of Almas on their quest, even fending off a couple contracted assassination attempts courtesy of the vengeful Yinyasmera. However, this would ultimately lead to Vorrix’s demise, when Glock would one day return from gathering supplies to find his mentor fatally wounded. Jumped by the waiting assassins, Glock flew into a blind rage and was able to kill all but one, choosing to aid Vorrix instead of chase the fleeing killer with a bleeding dagger tattoo. In a familiar panic of guilt and fear, and in the throes of rage, Glock attempted to heal his mentor with some of the spiritual magic he had witnessed Vorrix perform.

Inadvertently, whilst Glock’s actions would not be successful in saving his mentor, they would prevent Vorrix from fully departing this world, causing an aspect of his mentor’s soul to attach to Glock in his emotional state. From this point on, Glock’s rage would invoke possession by a part of Vorrix’s spirit - a spiritually attuned rage known as Spirit Instinct.

Otari

Abandoning his mentor’s quest, Glock sought revenge against Yinyasmera back in Otari. Arriving in Otari for his big showdown, Glock would learn that Yinyasmera no longer resided in Crook’s Nook, and had vanished from Otari completely. Only whispers of a spy network that remained in the shadows beneath Otari left an impression of Yinyasmera’s legacy.

Glock, defeated for purpose and back in a place he once called home, saw the potential to start over anew in Otari by using his strength and skills to aid townsfolk and traveller’s alike on their various quests - whether an honest attempt to reclaim some of that adventurous spirit his time under Vorrix had gifted him, or just a means to buy time until he could find Yinyasmera - not even Glock truly knows.
